Appointment will be made on Supplies Officer Grade D scale (€36,649 - €47,770 €49,416 LSI) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

The Supplies Department of Beaumont Hospital is critical to the operation of the Hospital as a whole.
In particular, the Stores function is responsible for the provision of efficient and effective support to
the Supplies Department in the management, control, and distribution of stock and pharmaceutical
items across the hospital.
The successful candidate will ensure timely procurement, receipt, storage, and delivery of goods and
services in compliance with hospital procedures as more fully outlined in the principal duties and
responsibilities below.

 

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Top up of intravenous fluids, disinfectants etc as specified on ward stock sheets. Review and
    maintenance of stock sheets.
  • Delivery of medications at times specified to ensure continuity of patient medication
    treatment.
  • Maintenance of the IV fluid store to include ward lists for stock items for ordering from
    suppliers, stock control and expiry dates.
  • Responsibile for the maintenance of hygiene standards in the IV fluid store.
  • Responsibile for the correct tagging and disposable of waist drug products for incineration.
  • Correct disposable of general waste from the pharmacy department (inclusive of waste
    stored outside Pharmacy on the Supplies corridor if required), other than that performed by
    the general cleaning staff.
  • Recording of all issues of stock for charging on the computer system.
  • To undertake to maintain a satisfactory standard of work.
  • To report to immediate superior on any irregularities that might adversely affect the carrying
    out of assigned duties.
  • To report promptly for duty.
  • To provide cover where needed in any other area within the supplies remit.
  • Candidate must be available to work overtime i.e. full day when required.
  • Assist in the training of newly appointed staff within your area.
  • The appointee will be required to perform the above and any other duties which may be
    assigned from time to time by the Chief Pharmacists / Pharmacy Manager, Supplies Manager
    and Head of Procurement.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and/ or experience

 

1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

i. Have obtained at least grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary Level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied.

Or

ii. Passed an examination of at least equivalent standard.

Or

iii. Have satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills.

And

iv. Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability), for the proper discharge of the office.

 

2. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

3. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

Desirable Skills and experience

  • The successful candidate must have experience working in a hospital or a similar healthcare
    environment.
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff
    and suppliers.
  • The successful candidate must possess the ability to work as part of a team and independently
    under pressure.
  • The successful candidate must have strong organisational skills.
  • The successful candidate must have a full understanding of health and safety practices in a
    hospital environment.
  • The successful candidate should have materials management knowledge.
  • The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of the Supplies Department and a
    stores environment.
  • The successful candidate should possess a familiarity with stock control.
