Salary:

Appointment will be made on Entry Level Dietitian salary at a point in line with Government pay policy

Hours of work: 

Full time 35 Hours per Week    

 

Position Summary:

·  To work/function as an efficient and effective member of the dietetic team in Beaumont Hospital and the assigned multidisciplinary team(s), with the aim of providing optimum nutrition and dietetic care to patients (in-patients and out-patients) attending their service

·   To rotate between Entry Level Dietitian post gaining experience in areas such as surgery, Respiratory, Nephrology, General Medicine, Gastroenterology)

·  To be responsible for and provide a high quality dietetic service for all patients within their area of assignment

·  To perform such other duties appropriate to office as may be from time to time assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or a designated officer

Responsibilities

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for providing evidence based dietetic service to assigned clinical areas. This dietetic service should include development, implementation and monitoring of nutrition care plans in both in-patient and outpatient settings. Assigned clinical areas may be rotated with other entry level Dietitians.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary approach to patient care by regularly liaising with relevant personnel (medical, nursing, clinical and non-clinical), attending team meetings and participating in ward rounds, as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers and all other hospital staff to ensure an appropriate quality service to patients.
  • Keep the necessary records, documentation & statistics appropriate to office, as defined by the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, under the guidance of the Dietitian Manager In Charge.
  • Assist in the clinical training of Student Dietitians on clinical placement in Beaumont Hospital, and liaise with the Student Co-ordinator as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional competence
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of standards, protocols, policies and guidelines for Nutrition & Dietetic services in Beaumont Hospital.
  • Participate in developing resource materials for use by the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Be responsible for his/her own professional development and keep abreast of developments in the area of Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Participate in continuing quality improvement initiatives that pertain to the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Participate in nutrition education programmes throughout the hospital, eg. Nursing, medical and catering courses.
  • Participate in ongoing audits relating to patient care and support research in the area of assignment
  • Participate in Dietetic Teams set up within the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics.  This may require providing cover to other specialities from time to time.
  • Carry out other duties appropriate to the post, as may be assigned by the Manager of Nutrition & Dietetics

Mandatory:


1: Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience etc


Candidates for appointment must:


i. Be registered, or be eligible for registration, as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU. Candidates who are eligible for registration with CORU in 2024 may apply, but offer of employment would be subject to receiving registration

 

AND


ii. Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge if the duties of the office

 

AND


iii. Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU, if already registered

 

2: Annual Registration:


i. On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU.

 

AND


ii. Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)


Desirable:


Experience & Knowledge:


• Acute hospital dietetics experience
• Member of the INDI
• Active participation in a dietetics interest group(s)
• Knowledge of healthcare services in Ireland
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Complies with relevant professional ethics, code of professional practice, CORU code of practice
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good presentation skills
• Basic computer skills using Word, PowerPoint and dietary analysis programmes
