Position Summary
The Clinical Specialist Podiatrist will have responsibility for the provision of a high quality, evidence-based podiatry service to patients presenting with active Diabetic foot disease.
They will oversee the development of the Diabetes podiatry service. They will provide a limited non diabetes service to patients with active foot disease during consultant lead clinics only. This service will remain limited until specialist specific podiatry posts are in place.
The clinical specialist podiatrist will work closely with the Diabetes multi-disciplinary foot team (MDFT) to develop and deliver inpatient and outpatient services.
Within this role she/he will:
Identify, assess, and treat patients primarily under the care of the diabetes service for whom they will offer a specialist service. However, he/she will also be expected to deliver a podiatry coordinated service with the following specialties, Vascular, Orthopaedics, Renal, ID and OPAT and Emergency department as capacity allows and until there are sufficient resources to allow for the podiatry service to be dedicated to these areas.

Key Responsibilities
Eligibility + Selection criteria:
Mandatory:
1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Podiatrists Register
maintained by the Podiatrists Registration Board at CORU.
And
(ii) Have 5 years full time (or equivalent) years full time post qualification clinical
experience of which 4 years must be consecutive in the required area of
specialism.
And
(iii) Must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to
the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or
courses relevant to a specialist diabetes foot service.
And
(iv) Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality
improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.
And
(v) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Podiatrists Register maintained by
the Podiatrists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment
can be issued.

(vi) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, (including a high
standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability), for the
proper discharge of the duties of the office.
2. Annual Registration
(i) Practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Podiatrists Register
maintained by the Podiatrists Registration Board at CORU.
AND
(ii) Confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient
Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
3. Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of
undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a
reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
4. Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Desirable
• Continuing professional development (CPD) in Podiatry related to Diabetes.
• Relevant masters or Doctoral qualification
• Member of relevant professional body.
• Significant clinical experience in diabetes podiatric care.
• Broad knowledge of other podiatric specialities.
• Research
• Experience in podiatry coordinated care of patients with active foot disease.
• Experience in casting.
• Background knowledge of Beaumont hospital governance and organisational structure, core activities, values, and strategic aims.
• Experience of teaching and research.
